Colin Currie Records was founded in 2018 as a platform for Colin’s diverse projects, celebrating the extraordinary developments in percussion music over the past century. The first release on the label was Steve Reich’s Drumming, recorded with the Colin Currie Group & Synergy Vocals, followed by an album with Currie’s regular collaborator Håkan Hardenberger. The label’s latest album, a recording of concertos by HK Gruber, will be released on 19 March 2021.

The third album on Colin Currie Records celebrates Currie’s artistic relationship with American cultural icon Steve Reich. Programmed and performed at the composer’s request and under his supervision, this album is essential for any Reich fan, capturing a group of truly world-class performers.

The Scene of the Crime

Colin Currie and Håkan Hardenberger have earned a reputation as fearless innovators. The charismatic and virtuosic duo have performed together for over a decade, and their first album on Colin Currie Records presents four works written for the duo alongside André Jolivet’s Heptade, written for Maurice André.

Steve Reich: Drumming

Drumming was the piece which launched the Colin Currie Group, a virtuoso ensemble of musicians hand-picked by Currie. Formed in 2006 for a performance at the BBC Proms celebrating the 70th birthday of Steve Reich, the group specialises in the American composer’s work. This recording was made possible by a crowd-funding campaign, which Reich enthusiastically endorsed, saying “It will be, I am sure, the best recording of Drumming ever made!”
