Sergey Simakov is a Russian conductor currently living in Germany. In 2015, he was awarded the 1st prize at the International Conducting Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest. He worked as Assistant Conductor at the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie as well as the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz to Principal Conductor Daniel Raiskin (2012-2013 season).
Sergey Simakov was Music Director at the „Oper Oder-Spree“ festival in 2016, and in 2019 he was guest conductor at the State Opera House in Cottbus (Germany). Sergey Simakov is founder and artistic director of the Giraud Ensemble Chamber Orchestra.
In 2016, together with the Giraud Ensemble he released a recording of Schoenberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire”for the ZHdK-Records label, and in 2017 a CD recording with works composed by Shostakovich, Vasks, and Baum.
He has appeared with a number of orchestras and ensembles including the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Nord Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philarmonique de Strasbourg, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and others.
